Meeting the Beatles in India

Feature Film Documentary THE BEATLES IN INDIA about Transcendental Meditation, the quest for inner peace, prolific song-writing and the road to the White Album.

Opens October 16th

In 1968, with the eyes of the world upon them, The Beatles traveled to Rishikesh, India, to study transcendental meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

In one of the most anticipated Beatles documentaries, filmmaker Paul Saltzman retraces his personal journey of 50 years ago when, by total happenstance, he spent a life-changing time with John, Paul, George and Ringo at the same ashram. He also took a lot of photos. Fifty years later he reveals previously unknown details of this pivotal – and exceptionally creative – moment in the Beatles’ career, and the inner workings of the masterful White Album.

Saltzman the filmmaker (Prom Night In Mississippi, The Last White Knight) finds "Bungalow Bill" in Hawaii; connects with David Lynch about his own inner journey; walks and talks with preeminent Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn; and interviews Oscar-nominated composer Laurence Rosenthal, as well as Pattie and Jenny Boyd. And the journey began because of Saltzman's own daughter, Devyani, who reminded him that he had put away and forgotten those remarkably intimate photographs of that time in 1968.
